Un acto de perdón y reconciliación sin precedentes se presentó durante el evento, en el que cerca de 80 organizaciones ambientalistas y algunos poetas nadaistas, se unieron a la pasada campaña del presidente Juan Manuel Santos, en perspectiva de respaldar sus políticas enfocadas al cuidado del medio ambiente para el próximo mandato.
 

Entre los participantes de la mesa se encontraba el concejal de Bogotá por el Polo Democrático Roberto Sáenz, hermano del ex jefe guerrillero Guillermo León Sáenz, alias Alfonso Cano, quien fue dado de baja en un campamento en Suárez Cauca, en una operación militar ordenada por Santos, iniciando su mandato.
 
Durante su intervención, Sáenz hizo énfasis en la obligación que tiene el Gobierno en relación con el cuidado del ambiente y los recursos naturales del país, lo cual precisa de inversión económica para su sustentación.
Pero en un acto inesperado, en el que el mismo Santos se vio sorprendido, el concejal expresó: “Presidente no podría dejar pasar esta ocasión para decirle públicamente que los hechos de guerra en los que cayó mi hermano…Tengo que afirmar que el perdón es parte fundamental para la reconciliación. Como muchos hijos padres y hermanos, lloré la muerte de mi hermano. La situación de guerra, no nos conviene; es evidente que tenemos que superarlo y sé que las decisiones de la guerra tienen que ser superadas para que ese dolor no se repita”.
 
Sáenz confesó que el encuentro con el mandatario fue espontáneo y le manifestó su respaldo al proceso de paz. Al mismo tiempo agregó que ya es hora de que Colombia haga un tránsito hacia la paz, senda que deberá ir acompañada por la reconciliación con la naturaleza y el cuidado del medio ambiente.
 
Luego de esto, y notablemente sorprendido, el presidente afirmó: “Créanme que estoy un poco conmovido porque esto no era planeado: Estoy sentado al lado del hermano de Alfonso Cano… Yo ordené su muerte porque estábamos en guerra, y estamos en guerra. Sus palabras (refiriéndose a Sáenz), me llegaron al corazón. Perdonar es un acto de fortaleza, de entereza y creo que eso es lo que necesita este país si queremos alcanzar la paz. Debemos aprender a
perdonar y a reconciliarnos”. Manifestó el primer mandatario al tiempo que exaltó la actitud de reconciliación de Sáenz.

 
Finalmente, el emotivo acto culminó en un abrazo entre los dos actores, un abrazo que tanto Santos como Sáenz esperan sea el inicio de la paz que el país espera.
