Tambien conocido como tamarillo, tiene su origen en los Andes peruanos, pero actualmente se cultiva en Colombia, Brasil, la India, Sri Lanka, Sudáfrica, California, Nueva Zelanda. Pertenece a la familia de las Solanáceas, que incluye cerca de 2.300 especies de plantas.

Propiedades

El tomate de árbol es una fruta rica en agua y vitaminas, en especial, en provitamina A, vitamina B6, C y E. Contiene minerales esenciales como calcio, fósforo, hierro y magnesio.

Su acción antioxidante ayuda a fortalecer el sistema inmunológico y sirve al buen funcionamiento del sistema nervioso. Se recomienda para mejorar la visión, para controlar la presión alta y el colesterol, favorece la mejoría cuando se padecen estados gripales. Es útil en la absorción del hierro y también interviene en la formación de huesos, dientes y colágeno.

Se incluye frecuentemente en dietas para perder peso, gracias a que su consumo genera sensación de saciedad, no contiene muchas calorías y si bastante fibra, además de tener un leve efecto laxante, propiedades que mejoran el tránsito intestinal. Comúnmente se ha utilizado el fruto y las hojas como cataplasmas calientes para tratar la inflamación de amígdalas, las anginas y las afecciones de garganta. Se ha encontrado que sus componentes ayudan a prevenir y reducir el riesgo de sufrir enfermedades degenerativas, cardiovasculares y el cáncer. Se le reconoce como remedio natural para actuar sobre problemas hepáticos.

Ají con tomate de árbol

Ingredientes

• 1 taza de pulpa de tomate de árbol
• Media taza de agua
• 1 ají sin semillas y sin venas o gotas de ají al gusto
• Media cucharadita de sal
• 2 cucharadas de cebolla blanca
• 1 cucharada de cilantro picado
• 1 cucharada de aceite
• Jugo de 1 limón

Preparación

1. Corte los tomates por la mitad y saque la pulpa.
2. Licue la pulpa con el ají, al que previamente le ha quitado las semillas y venas, si no lo desea muy picante.
3. Coloque el licuado en una olla pequeña, agregue el agua y cocine por 7 minutos a temperatura media.
4. Agregue la cebolla picada, el jugo de limón, el cilantro picado y sal al gusto.

Loción para suavizar y dar brillo al cabello

Mezcle una taza de jugo de tomate de árbol con una cucharadita de vinagre. Puede guardar la loción en la nevera por una semana.

Modo de usar

Divida el pelo en mechones y luego aplique con un algodón. Emplee la loción una o dos horas antes del lavado del cabello, luego lávelo como acostumbra. Pronto notará la suavidad y el brillo que le aporta esta loción.
