Después del magnifico mundial del que fuimos testigos y de la ratificación de José Pekerman, como técnico a cargo de la Selección, solo queda una duda ¿Quiénes seran los reemplazos de Mario Alberto Yepes, Aquivaldo Mosquera, Farid Mondragón? Y de los que no se tuvo en cuenta: Luis Muriel y Aldo Ramírez.
El estratega de la selección nacional, fiel a su estilo, lleva un seguimiento claro de los jugadores que están en buen nivel y que puede tener en cuenta para una posible convocatoria. Así pues, Pedro Franco del Besiktas de Turquía, Jeison Murillo del Granada de España, Edwin Cardona de Atlético Nacional, Yimmi Chara del Deportes Tolima y José Cuadrado del Once Caldas, fueron elegidos para estar en los partidos amistosos contra El Salvador y Canadá.

Para empezar, los centrales Franco y Murillo respondieron cabalmente a las expectativas. Compañeros en la selección Colombia sub 20, jugaron de memoria, pero esta vez, con más experiencia a nivel internacional, seguros en la marca, rápidos en los cierres, fuertes en el juego aéreo y serenos en la salida, dejaron huella e ilusionan con su presentación. Es necesario tener en cuenta que son jugadores muy jóvenes (22 años), pero de jerarquía, que siguen demostrando buen desempeño en sus clubes y esperan afianzarse en el combinado patrio. Así que tenemos defensa para rato.
Edwin Cardona tuvo más participación en el juego: cambió su posición natural de armado, para retrasarse un poco, conformando un tridente dinámico con Mejía y Carbonero. Igualmente, mostró más trabajo de marca, y la evidente sinergia con James, resultó positiva para Colombia, pues dio como resultado más juego en la mitad de la cancha y mayor elaboración en las jugadas. El 10 colombiano encontró en Cardona su mejor socio. A pesar de esto, en algunos momentos del partido, su participación era intermitente. Cardona tiene cualidades como su media distancia y visión periférica, importantes para la selección. Esperemos que el profesor Pekerman pueda erradicar sus actos extra deportivos y nos permita ver la mejor versión de este gran mediocampista que tiene mucho por dar.
Yimmi Chará, que tuvo acción en los últimos 15 minutos del partido contra El Salvador, insuficientes, para emitir una acertada opinión, puede ser pieza clave, si se tiene en cuenta lo que viene haciendo en el Tolima. Chará es un jugador con llegada al área y gol, que ostenta gran velocidad y seguridad a la hora de enganchar rivales, virtudes fundamentales para la victoria.
Por su parte, José Fernando Cuadrado, aunque no tuvo participación, está demostrando el gran arquero que es, en el Once Caldas, ratificando por qué fue llamado a la Selección.
